Charles Elmer Johnson, 90, went to be with the Lord and has joined his family in Heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Charles always had a kind word for everyone and never met a stranger. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, rescuing American POWs in Nagasaki, Japan. He was with John Bailey Insurance Company for over 30 years.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother Sara “Sally” West, his father Rufus Millard Johnson, his step-son Steven Gary, his brother Floyd Johnson and his sisters Ruby Sanders, Edna Mae DeMarcus, Mildred Honeycutt,...

Charles Elmer Johnson, 90, went to be with the Lord and has joined his family in Heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Charles always had a kind word for everyone and never met a stranger. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, rescuing American POWs in Nagasaki, Japan. He was with John Bailey Insurance Company for over 30 years.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother Sara “Sally” West, his father Rufus Millard Johnson, his step-son Steven Gary, his brother Floyd Johnson and his sisters Ruby Sanders, Edna Mae DeMarcus, Mildred Honeycutt, Betty Johnson, Bobbie Jean Johnson and Doris Sue Johnson.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife Hazel Johnson, his step-sons David Gary (Karen) and Richard Gary (Jennifer Grayson), grandchildren Daniel, Rebecca, Erin and Richelle, six great-grandchildren, nephew Donald DeMarcus, nieces Mary Lou Ottinger, Norma Jean Bowers, Kay McClain and their families.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Berry Highland Memorial from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
